What is a Birth Doula?
A doula is a non-medical professional who is experienced with, and knowledgeable about pregnancy and childbirth. A doula provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a birthing mother and her family during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.
“The way I like to describe doula support is to have you start by thinking back on a big life event. Maybe you are thinking about your wedding day or buying your first home. Think about all of the preparation and planning that went into that process. Did you do all of that work yourself or did you hire a wedding planner or real estate agent? You could totally plan a wedding and buy a house on your own without hiring an expert right? Yes! But I want you to think about everything that goes into those big life events, is it worth all of the additional work to do these things on your own? For some, yes. For others, they would prefer to hire an expert in that specific area to help guide them through the entire process. That expert knows all of the ins and outs, they know how to find the good referrals, reliable resources, and they help make the overall experience a more positive outcome. Why? Because you had expert support and guidance through the entire journey.
As your doula, I am there to support, guide, and reassure you through the entire journey. Let me take some of the stress away and provide you with support and educational information to help you achieve a more positive birth experience. So, all of that to say: hire that wedding planner, secure that real estate agent, and add a doula to your birthing team!” -Krystal |
